The Calendar Girls is a monthly blog event that was created by Melanie at MNBernard Books, and Flavia at Flavia the Bibliophile, and is now hosted by Adrienne at Darque Dreamer Reads, and Katie at Never Not Reading. It was inspired by the 1961 classic song by Neil Sedaka and created to ignite fun bookish discussions among readers and bloggers.

My Thoughts

This month I picked Reincarnation Blues as the “Strangest Book I’ve Ever Read”. This book is about Milo, who is in love with Suzie (death). He’s lived almost 10,000 lives and failed to achieve perfection so that he can spend the rest of his life with Suzie. It’s only until he’s almost hit 10,000 lives that he finds out that there is a limit to how many times he can try for perfection, and he only has 5 lives left to get it right or have his soul lost forever. It was an interesting concept for the story and I instantly fell in love with all of the ridiculous and hilarious lives that Milo lived through.

Some lives were just brushed over, but others went into more detail and had some lessons in them. I really enjoyed most of them, but I do wish we’d gotten to see some more from Suzie because she didn’t have a big presence in the book. I know this was mostly about Milo, but I still wish she’d have been a stronger character.

That being said (I really can’t remember most of this stuff happening) when I went back on Goodreads I saw some comments about the author using some offensive language in the book. I read this forever ago but I went to go check and they totally did so I do want to give a trigger warning for offensive language as well as some allusions to rape that happens in the book.
