＊Ｎｏｔｅ：I received this sample from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
Mila Flores and her best friend Riley have always been inseparable. There’s not much excitement in their small town of Cross Creek, so Mila and Riley make their own fun, devoting most of their time to Riley’s favorite activity: amateur witchcraft.
So when Riley and two Fairmont Academy mean girls die under suspicious circumstances, Mila refuses to believe everyone’s explanation that her BFF was involved in a suicide pact. Instead, armed with a tube of lip gloss and an ancient grimoire, Mila does the unthinkable to uncover the truth: she brings the girls back to life.
Unfortunately, Riley, June, and Dayton have no recollection of their murders, but they do have unfinished business to attend to. Now, with only seven days until the spell wears off and the girls return to their graves, Mila must wrangle the distracted group of undead teens and work fast to discover their murderer…before the killer strikes again.
✩ Mila was grieving for her best friend so she was understandably emotional, but she was also sassy, driven, and passionate. She’s loyal and definitely someone I’d rather have on my side than as an enemy!
❝ The problem with your best friend dying is that there’s no one to sit with you at funerals. It’s not the number one problem. Obviously, my best friend’s bloated, waterlogged corpse being lowered into the earth for the rest of eternity is currently at the top of my list of Emotionally Debilitating Things That Will Take the Rest of My Life to Recover From. But sharing my pew with strangers while Ms. Chu, the principal of Fairmont Academy, drones on and on definitely ranks high on the list of reasons why my friend being murdered is the pits. ❞
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with a sample of this book! All opinions are my own!
This mini-review is only for a sample/preview of this book (the first couple of chapters) but it made such an impression on me that I went out and preordered the Undead Girl Gang before I was halfway done with the sample! I mean, just read the first sentence and tell me that doesn’t hook you. Try.
Mila refuses to accept that her best friend killed herself, and so she sets out to get revenge and stop the killer. It’s her voice that really pulled me into the story. It’s snarky, funny, and heartbreaking all at once. Her biting remarks and sarcastic way of dealing with people around her can seem abrasive but it’s charming too because there’s just so much personality on the page.
From reading the synopsis I know that Mila is going to succeed at resurrecting the girls with the spellbook she found so I’m excited for that but more than anything I’m excited to meet these three other characters. Undead Girl Gang is full of so much promise that I can’t help but wish it was tomorrow already so I could have the full book in my hands. I look forward to reading and getting a full review up soon, but until then I hope you guys will go check out this great book out for yourselves! ❤
Undead Girl Gang will be out on May 8th! Go check it out!
